What is an Apprenticeship?

An Apprenticeship is a paid job with vocational (work-based) training, they are an excellent way for you to gain valuable skills and experience while studying towards a nationally recognised qualification. The Apprenticeship qualifications are designed by groups of employers who use their industry experience to give apprentices relevant skills that are needed in today’s business arena.

To become an Apprentice you must:

  • be 16 or above
  • be living in England
  • not be in full-time education
  • have a minimum of 5 GCSE’s at A-C grade, including English and Maths

You can become an Apprentice is you already have a job and would like to gain a nationally recognised vocational qualification. If you have a job and would like to become an Apprentice you should contact us and we can help you to enroll.

Apprentice Wages

While working as an Apprentice you will be entitled to the National Minimum Wage. The current minimum wage rate for an apprentice is £3.40 per hour, however, this rate will increase to £3.50 per hour on 1 April 2017. This rate applies to apprentices aged 16 to 18 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. You must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for your age if you’re an apprentice aged 19 or over and have completed your first year.

The wage that you are offered will change for different job role and also in different areas of the country.  At Hunter Consultancy we offer technology based Apprenticeships and recommend that our clients offer a minimum of £4.50 per hour.

Apprentice Working hours

As an Apprentice you must be for a minimum of 30 hours per week, this includes your Apprenticeship training.
