Our client is an international trading company in the banking sector. They are looking for a Senior Linux Systems Analyst who is an excellent communicator that can manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Providing first- and second-level support for UNIX/Linux technology
  • Monitoring Linux-based servers for hardware and software failures, then resolving those failures
  • Assisting with day-to-day maintenance of servers, including performing backups, software installations and upgrades
  • Working with numerous Open Source applications, including Nagios, MySQL, Smokeping, radius and mrtg, to build enterprise-level systems
  • Assist in researching, recommending, implementing and maintaining new technologies, application software (including applications and operating systems) and hardware
  • Installing, configuring and supporting phones
  • Managing inventory
  • Occasional racking and stacking servers and equipment in datacenters across Europe
  • Qualifications

You should be motivated to find the best solutions to problems of all sizes, whether they require researching new technologies, visiting data centers, or crawling under desks. You should have:

  • At least three years of work experience in a Linux/UNIX environment, including experience maintaining and running RedHat Linux servers
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Scripting skills
  • UNIX skills, including LDAP, DNS (bind), NFS, rsync, and iptables
  • Experience using the following commands: vmstat, top, uname, ps, emacs/vi, cvs/svn/git, make, rpm, ping, and traceroute
  • Knowledge of python
  • Knowledge of Windows
  • Helpdesk experience, including experience troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues
  • Experience working in a data center, including experience racking and stacking servers, wiring and making patch cables, and working with fiber optic cables
  • Experience administering Microsoft Exchange and Share Point (preferred)Experience with compliance and regulatory issues (a plus)

You should also be:

  • Able to learn quickly and take on new responsibilities as priorities change
  • Able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work independently while coordinating with a remote team
  • Able to cover a 7.30am shift and accommodate occasional weekend work
  • An excellent communicator
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Capable of lifting 60 pounds
  • Willing to travel to Tower’s New York office for at least six weeks of training
  • You should have legal authorisation to work in the United Kingdom indefinitely. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
